Rebate vs VIP Tier — Two Routes, One Reachable

A few days ago we covered VIP tier economics — the published fee ladders that every major exchange offers, and why their attractive lower rows are mathematically out of reach for retail traders. Worth following that up with the direct comparison, because there are genuinely two routes to a lower per-trade rate and they're accessible in very different ways.

Route one: climb the VIP ladder. On BingX, VIP 3 sits at approximately $5 million in 30-day rolling volume, and it takes your futures taker rate from the 0.050% base down to roughly 0.035%. That is a real discount attached to a real requirement. At an average position size of $5,000, holding VIP 3 means executing around 1,000 round-trip trades per month — sustained, indefinitely, or the tier lapses and the rate reverts.

Route two: register through a referral rebate. The base 0.050% taker becomes 0.025%. Volume required: none. Time to qualify: immediate on registration. Expiry: none. If your trading activity drops to zero for six months and then resumes, the rate is unchanged.

That second route lands you below VIP 3 pricing without ever doing $5 million in a month.

The reason both exist is that they price on different things. VIP tiers price on volume — the exchange is effectively rebating you for the flow you provide, which has real value to their order book. Referral rebates price on acquisition — the exchange pays a commission to whoever brought the user, and that commission can be split with the user. Two different mechanisms, both standard, both published openly by the exchanges themselves.

Neither route is a trick or a loophole. The observation worth making is narrower than that: one of them is available to you today at zero cost, and the other requires becoming a materially different trader first. If you're trading $5M a month already, the VIP ladder is straightforwardly worth optimizing. If you're not — and statistically almost nobody reading this is — the referral route is the one that actually applies.

Trading involves risk; choosing the accessible route changes your cost base, not your outcomes.
